When my husband and I were house shopping, it was important to us to find a house that we did not need to move from in a few years. In other words, we did not want a "starter" house. We wanted a forever house. If life takes us in a different direction and we end up moving, that's one thing. But we were ready to move on from the limbo of always knowing that the next move was just around the corner.
One side effect of this decision is that each time we build a new memory or pass a new holiday in this house, I think of all the ones yet to come. It really grounds traditions and gives them a firmer meaning when you believe that not only will you carve more pumpkins but that those same pumpkins will sit where this one does today.
